Avonmouth

STOP PRESS INFO from Simon Barrington-Hawkins
It would seem form the photo's he sent in that the Bristol
Port Company have beefed up the fencing around the access to this
venue. Some large shiny bright red fencing and sparkling razor wire
to dissuade the intrepid anglers.
There are still places to gain access to the foreshore but you will
have to get on further upstream and walk a bit.
Next time we're there we'll get some more photo's

Avonmouth its self is a bit restricted for fishing.
The docks area is not fishable, which is a shame as there are some
good deep water marks at the sea entrance to the docks complex.
You can fish the foreshore at the rear of the Esso terminal.

From the M5 J18 onto the A4, go into Avonmouth, follow signs for
Severn Beach.
Follow the A403 St Andrews road out of Avonmouth heading towards
Severn Beach, (see the new info at the bottom of this page),
you pass through two sets of traffic lights then take
the next left into a grassed traffic island, don't go left again but go
straight on. You will see a large ramp in front of you, follow the ramp
onto a bridge, bear right (just follow the road) and down the other side.
Go straight on, onto the dirt track, keeping the Esso terminal on your left.
Follow this for about 300m until the fencing ends.
There will be a locked gate on your left.
Park here out of the way, not in the middle of the track.
Have a look at the railings to the right of the gate and you can see

you can walk around easily .

Follow the track to the end and go fishing.

The foreshore, remember the wooden piling is there.
This will be under water on most tides, and the grassed area will flood on bigger tides.

The purple arrows have been added to the photo's, ( you'd be amazed at the
complaints we get painting arrows !) to assist.

**********THE ABOVE DIRECTION INFORMATION IS NO LONGER VALID**************

Access to the shore can be gained further north crossing under the railway line (severn beach line)
look for the small arches as the A403 runs parallel to the railway track opposite the chemical works
Zeneca (ICI as was), or has it changed it's name again?

!!!!!!!!DO NOT CROSS THE RAILTRACKS!!!!!

***************************************************************

The fishing can be very good for Cod and Whiting in the winter, with Bass,
Sole and Flounders spring and summer.
Tackle losses are low due to the clean ground, but you can get stuck in the mud.
