Hi

I'm staying at blue anchor for a week in June, looking to do some sea fishing (beach).
Need to get some more tackle as mine is 20+ years old (anyone remember a
shakespeare 2450 dc reel).

Could someone recommend some reasonably priced gear & what casting
weights - I am doubting you get any quality from a £40 combo.

hi folks. I'm new to this (as an adult) and the channel is closest for
what I want.
Money and transport restrictions make Clevedon eastwards my ideal
area and I am open to all advice.
I will be shore fishing and am particularly interested in fishing from
Severn Beach upwards.the website seems to have little on the subject,
so if I get a few pointers I will willingly contribute my experiences in return.
Thanks.

Hello everyone just to let you all know for the past month I've been fishing Brean Down
and the bass has been plenty full.
This mark is not for the unfit person as there are 203 vertical steps to climb and about
half a mile walk to get to a decent mark.
Take plenty of tackle as its very rocky but well worth the trip if you are fit!

Does anyone know at what water temperature fish would stop feeding in a
marina environment?

I ask as I went fishing in Portishead marina on 27 December, and from all my
records, the conditions were perfect. Tide height, timing, barometric pressure
and wind direction. However, it was very cold (-6deg C at 4.00am,rising to 0
deg C at 10am), and I wondered whether this was actually a factor.

Any comments would be useful.

Hi Bristol ! I'm a Brit Ex-pat living in the US of A.
I used to live in Almondsbury village (born and raised local. As a kid we (local village boys) used
to cycle to Aust to net the mullet in the pool under the Severn bridge stanchion (Aust side) which
was left when the tide went out.
There was always a heap fish waiting to be caught! (stranded by the out-tide).
My question is... Does anyone know if there are still mullet there to be caught?
I'd love to hear from anyone who fish's there Regards Alan Jarman

intention of getting a few days fishing in. (from the shore) Whilst being a fairly competent

Any tips relating to good spots (ideally cleaner ground!) tackle and bait would be welcome.

This is my first season fishing from the shore. I've not yet managed to hook into a cod and
wonder if there are any better baits than those I've been using.
I normally fish with two rods, one set-up with a whole squid torpedo with a lug and Mackeral
filling, and one with a rag and lug baited hook with a small piece of squid tipping it off.
I've also been told that cod take a whole mackerel head and have tried this - any other
ideas, please?

From Andy Willcocks 06/11/03

I have just read with great interest your site information on Small Boats info.
I am amazed to see that in your places to launch feature you list 2 places (Clevedon & Portishead)
where in your words 'Poor relations' with Sailing Clubs are mentioned.
I would point out that a. The Portishead slipway you feature is in fact a Private
slipway for the sole use of the Portishead Sailing Club & the Inshore Lifeboat stationed there.
b. The Clevedon slipway is in fact entirely Public and is free for all to use.
However it is the restrictions on using motor vehicles to launch boats that has
caused problems in the past.
I am as much an Angler as a Sailor and I resent the view you portray. It does little
to enhance relationships between the two sports and is in fact inaccurate for the
reasons pointed out.
There are those, on both sides, who have little tolerance for each other but from
my experience I have found fishermen using Clevedon slipway considerate and
sympathetic to the Sailing Club needs. The sailing club members have often assisted
boats to launch or negotiate the steep ramp and I have had assistance from fishermen
with my boat.
Surely you should be encouraging this type of behaviour not advertising the poor
manners of a few small minded individuals.
Nevertheless, Great, informative site.

The site information has been updated

I'm new to shore fishing and would like some advice if anyone can help, please?

I've been fishing Sand Bay @ Weston, and caught small bass and green eels - is getting
into anything slightly larger just a matter of luck and keeping at it. I normally fish two
rods - one set-up with small hooks (size 1 or smaller for flatties etc) and one set-up for
bigger fish (size 3/0 or 4/0)

I seem to get a lot of bites (knocks), but very few full takes
